ABOUT JAMES DREW

James Drew is a senior executive, board member, and trusted adviser to private equity firms and healthcare ventures. Expert in go-to-market strategy, commercial execution, and enterprise transformation, Jim’s experience spans first-year startups to billion-dollar enterprises, including:

  • Operating in insurance, reinsurance, self-funded, and captive sectors

  • Commercializing insurance, insurtech, and healthtech solutions

  • Scaling distribution across payer, broker, TPA, and employer channels

  • Advising on healthcare market, M&A, and rating-agency dynamics

  • Transforming enterprises through disciplined go-to-market execution

At BCS Financial, a Blue Cross Blue Shield–owned insurer and reinsurer, Jim was Senior Vice President of Strategy, Product, and Marketing. During his 18-year tenure, he saw through six M&A transactions, 12 product launches, and scaled premium from $390M to over $800M.

While at BCS, Jim also founded and launched Ancilyze, an insurtech SaaS joint venture between BCS and Allianz. As Founder, President, and Board Member, he took the business from concept to market, developed a first‑of‑its‑kind ancillary distribution intelligence platform, secured national carrier participation, and expanded into multiple BCBS markets. He also supported or influenced multiple product launches, portfolio initiatives, and acquisitions including BCBS Global, Medical Risk Managers(MRM), and LifeSecure. In each case, he helped align market positioning and commercial effectiveness. Jim’s team also partnered closely with senior leadership to secure an AM Best upgrade for BCS in 2021.

As the founding Chief Growth Officer at life science startup Medzown, Jim built the initial go‑to‑market strategy, installed disciplined sales processes, and secured the first 10 revenue‑generating deals for the organization. Initial sales production included contracts and partnerships across health plan, stop-loss, third party administrator, captive, and broker channels.

Leading marketing at captive manager ClearPoint Health and stop-loss managing general underwriter Innovative Stop Loss Solutions (ISLS), Jim repositioned both companies to launch new products, enter new markets, and scaled ARR from $1M to $60M in 12 months.

Today, Jim works with investors, boards, founders, and executive teams in advisory, consulting, interim, fractional, or full-time capacities focusing on:

  • Aligning executive teams on clear go-to-market strategic priorities

  • Auditing current go-to-market strengths, gaps, and imperatives

  • Executing unified go-to-market plans generating proofs of concept

  • Activating repeatable go-to-market sales driving predictable growth

  • Navigating capital events and pre/post M&A transformations

When not at work, Jim, his wife Lisa, and his two adult sons are based in the greater Chicago area and spend much of their time enjoying summer and winter outdoor sports in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
